Alpine Puppies are responsible, conscientious breeders of elite Schnauzer and Schnoodle puppies in the Alpine region of Victoria. We are dedicated to producing healthy, loyal, loving companion pets that are friends for life.
As micro breeders we have VERY limited litters per year as the health and well-being of our breeding females is of the utmost concern to us.
Our puppies are family reared, no kennel environment here! Due to their loving upbringing they will fit in beautifully with your family. We devote our full attention and time to the most conscientious handling of our puppies and your potential family members possible.
Alpine Puppies: DNA Standards
The dogs we allow in our breeding program are all heath tested and are genetically clear. Dogs can have serious hereditary genetic
diseases so Alpine Puppies DNA test all our breeding dogs through Orivet DNA to track genetic conditions. The results tell us what testable genetic conditions the dogs have and/or are carriers so we can breed with confidence!
Alpine Puppies are never inbred, so are exceptionally unlikely to develop genetic illnesses associated with this practise. Alpine Puppies do not engage in line breeding practises.
Alpine Puppies: Puppy Socialisation & Desensitisation
Alpine Puppies are extremely passionate about socialising puppies to set them up for life. Socialising puppies is more than introducing them to other people and dogs, its exposing them gently to new environments, noises and experiences. A puppy’s most influential stage in life is their first 16 weeks. Their experiences and exposure during this time affect them for the rest of their life.
The first step for us as the breeder is Early Neurological Stimulation. This training starts at 3-5 days old and finishes at 16 days old. The program is made up of 5 simple exercises: holding the puppy off the ground, holding the puppy upright, holding the puppy facing downwards, touching each for the puppies paws and laying the puppy on a damp cloth. Each of these exercises is completed once per day every day during the 5-16 day period. The idea is that a puppy is stimulated at an earlier age than normal, therefore conditioning them to adapt to new stimuli and experiences. The puppies have more confidence, they easily adapt to new environments and they are very calm natured.
The puppies are groomed and desensitised to grooming practices from a young age. This includes, wiping them with a warm damp cloth, sanitary trimming their bottoms, exposing them to scissors, brushing and giving them a full wash/dry before they go to their new home. We strongly encourage new families to continue regular grooming. Simple things like touching your puppies ears, opening their mouth to see their teeth and rubbing their paws regularly makes a big difference. It desensitises the puppies to touch so when they go to the vet or the groomers they are less bothered by the experience. We have had amazing feedback from groomers and vets about our puppies temperaments and resilience from our Alpine Puppies Early puppy program!
Alpine Puppies are desensitised to noise and are habitually exposed to sound training.
Alpine Puppies are also given opportunities early to be socialised in busy areas such as cafes, traffic, travel and shops.
